Founder of The Ashmolean Museum, the first public museum in Britain, this work effectively contains a biography of Ashmole (1617 - 1692) with an annotated edition of his autobiographical notes, his correspondence and other contemporary sources relevant to his life and work by C H Josten. The first four volumes are illustrated throughout with plates, volume five is the index and completes the set continuous pagination to 2065.

In near fine condition, the binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the lettering on the spine bright. The end papers and pages are free from marks, tears or inscriptions. The unclipped dust jackets are all in very good condition with no loss and can be protected in a clear, removable cover if you request. There is no writing nor marks nor tears.
