A partial and slightly mixed set (mostly 1st English edition) still in publisher's boards of Alexander von Humboldt's account of his ground-breaking scientific expedition to South America and Cuba. The work was originally published in French between 1814 and 1825, and the first English edition was published between 1814 and 1829.

Humboldt is considered by many to be second only to Charles Darwin in the pantheon of 19th century naturalists, and Darwin was certainly influenced by the former's work.

Thus, Darwin lived and worked in the Beagle library for five years. The volumes are illustrated with 3 (of 8) engraved plates, and which include a large fold-out map of Colombia, a folding mezzotint illustrating the route of Humboldt's famous ascent of Mount Chimborazo in the Andes in 1802, and single-page chart of Tenerife.
